Dyke Plugging

I was in a meeting at work the other day and someone used the phrase "dyke plugging". Getting your mind out of the gutter for a moment, she was referring to merely fixing leaks in a dam rather than replacing the entire thing. Even now, I am not sure what is more surprising: the fact that I was in a meeting where the phrase "dyke plugging" was uttered, that a woman was the speaker of said statement, or that I was the only one whose head shot up and looked around when it was said.
